The loft started this dance craze! Back in the days we called them crazy dance moves “Lofting.”
The loft started this dance crazed! Back in the days we called them crazy dance moves “Lofting.”
DJs, take note: Everybody’s talking about how Larry Levan was a genuine, cool person… David Mancuso’s using his camera time to talk about the importance of equality and ending economic discrimination… It doesn’t start with records, or a system… It’s starts with you, as a person.
Spent many a wee hour at the Loft. The atmosphere of the Loft was interconnected but so different from the Garage. I still listen to those extended cuts like Macho City, 212 North and E2E4. My friends are always asking what is that playing in the background? You truly did have to live it to fully get it.
UNOIFUBLONG! YOU HAD TO LIVE THIS TO FULLY UNDERSTAND! THANK YOU FOR THE POST!! LEAVING OUT WHEN THE SUN CAME UP, SOAKED AND WET FROM SWEAT!!
What`s the name of that cut at 6:22?
who the fuck is disliking?
@rilesent I would not say the Loft started it all because then you are discounting the other clubs like the Sanctuary that came before them.
@bteiv676 Yes, the Garage did start in the late ’70s. The club on Prince was The Loft.
When I ride downtown next time I’m going to try and find where 99 Prince St. is. I went to so many clubs but Paradise was just that. What was the name of the club on the corner or Houston and Green (?), Thanks for the info.
@Smokeg1016 – there is a music genre called “loft classics” not “loft music”, also there is a music called “garage” but not “garage music”. Frankie Knuckles is from new york, he went to both the gallery and the loft. He then took that music which had no name to chicago where that music which had no name became known as wherehouse music, and ultimately just house music. the 1st to name it doesn’t mean they are the first to make it they are just the 1st to popularize it.
@bteiv676 99 prince was the lofts 2nd incarnation i think. garage started in the late 70′s (really the 80′s culturally), loft started in the early 70′s.
2 stupids dont like this video……pfffffffffff
Truth. Even the music bed in the backround is BAD!
Hey…the Garage started in the 70′s….
what’s the name of the club at 99 Prince?
Hey…the Garage started in the 70′s….
@WaathaaFuck You are SPEAKING THE TRUTH!
Is that guy at 0:12 Angel Mendez the drug dealer that was killed by one of the Club Kidz Michael Alig in March 1996??
“Where you mix the economic groups together, that’s where you have social progress”. Word.
What is the name of the track in the background @ 6:30?
@WaathaaFuck If it started in New York, then why isn’t it called Loft music, or Gallery music, or Garage music? Now if you say soulful Disco, yeah, I would give yall that. But not House, you can chop it up however you want and go to where a person started at or came from, but that term and it’s meaning started in the Chi, and everyone knows that-including Frankie who has stated that many times(watch the unsusal suspects).
@WaathaaFuck I agree in the piont about what you say “loft was first” but somehow I cannot agree that loft was the first “house”club. The guy I call the “godfather” was Ron Hardy, who made the Disco tracks more bumpy with hsi crazy reel-to-reel manipulation. That was the first time when disco was not called disco anymore, because it was too dark and powerfull. Of course it’s not easy to say who was first DJ who transformed disco into house with his sick 72 hours live sets. ..but I donno 4 sure^^
@rilesent
the reply may be very late but I’m soo tired of hearing about how House music originated in Chicago. Frankie Knuckles will admit it (and has admitted it on video) that house originated in NYC at the Loft with David Mancuso , who mentored Larry Levan, I know ! I lived it . I was there. I know Dave personally. The Loft was my home. I had membership at both the Loft and the Garage back in the day.( late 70′s early 80′s) You can never duplicate the experience.
